The Global Aneurysm Clips Market, by Aneurysm Type (Abdominal, Cerebral, Thoracic, and Peripheral), by Raw Material (Titanium, Cobalt, and Others), and by Region (North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa) was valued at US$ 972.9 million in 2017 and is projected to exhibit a CAGR of 6.2% over the forecast period (2018 - 2026).
The surgical management of aneurysms with the application of aneurysm clips is a well-established procedure. Aneurysm clips have gone through many changes, both in the materials and in the intricate design of their mechanisms. Currently, there are four major clip designs available in the market including the Sundt Slim-Line, McFadden Vari-Angle, and Sugita and Yasargil type clips. Clipping surgery can be performed on most types of aneurysms, including ruptured and unruptured aneurysms. It can also be performed on aneurysms considered difficult to treat, such as those with a wide neck at the base. In September 2018, the OpenMind project, which involves nine European partners across six different countries, developed the first production process using Fibre-Reinforced Plastics (FBR), which is able to produce customized minimally invasive medical devices used during MRI guided surgeries. Some of the devices produced using the new production facility include aneurysm clips, catheters, and puncture needles. In 2016, Neos Surgery (Barcelona, Spain), in partnership with Advanced Engineering & Technologies GmbH and Institut für Verbundwerkstoffe GmbH, developed a plastic clip, over metal clips to treat aneurysms. The plastic clip allows post-surgical checkups through Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans, which is not possible with metal clips.
