UK Sees Launch of First Naturally Fortified Porridge by Biovit and Purition

Natural micronutrient start-up Biovit has launched the world's first naturally fortified mass-market food and drink item. The new instant porridge range, which has been created in collaboration with whole food nutrition company Purition, is intended to tackle undernutrition among the vulnerable.

The Biovit-fortified porridge, which will be sold under the name Build & Restore, is intended for people suffering loss of appetite, chewing or swallowing difficulties, or recovery from surgery or sickness.

The Build & Restore breakfast porridge is offered in four flavors: Classic Unflavored, Banana & Cinnamon, Strawberry Jam, and Golden Syrup. With increased emphasis on nutrition and health, especially within care environments and amongst older populations, this product offers a convenient, healthy solution without sacrificing quality.

As per Biovit, the porridge is the sole meal replacement product available that is fortified with natural vitamins and minerals derived from organic plants like curry leaf, moringa and ascophyllum seaweed extracts. This is in sharp contrast to traditional fortified products, which tend to use synthetic additives that are derived from petrochemicals.

According to coherent market insights, the functional food industry is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 6.9% over the forecast period of 2025-2032. The market is predicted to be worth USD 233.37 Bn in 2025 and is expected to arrive at USD 372.3 Bn by the year 2032. The size of the industry is being fueled by increasing disposable incomes and a change in consumer preference toward healthy and natural foods.

Edward Taylor, founder of Purition, noted the brand’s commitment to whole-food nutrition. “For years, we’d been searching for a truly natural alternative to synthetic micronutrients that wouldn’t compromise our food-first philosophy,” he said. The collaboration with Biovit represents a breakthrough in the search for natural fortification methods that align with Purition's values.

Kyrus Wright, CEO and founder of Biovit emphasized the necessity of applying natural nutrients in products designed to avoid malnutrition. "The body was designed to extract nutrients from actual foods, not pure synthetic chemicals," he said.

A two-year research project in collaboration with the University of Swansea is currently in progress to compare the efficacy and bioavailability of natural and synthetic vitamins and minerals. The results later this year may further impact industry standards and consumer demand.

Biovit aims to expand its product range, with a minimum of two other fortified products poised to come on the UK market in the near future. Biovit is also working with more than ten major organic and natural food companies on new product development projects.
