iPhone 13 is rumored to get the 120Hz display refresh rate in two of the four smartphones that will be launched.
The iPhone 12 series came with big screen updates, although rumors suggesting that the displays will have 120Hz refresh rates were proven wrong. The same rumors are once again doing the rounds regarding iPhone 13. According to The Elec, a Korean news site, iPhone 13 may have the speculations that were rumored to be incorporated with iPhone 12. A report from The Elec states that iPhone 13 screens could have some interesting features. There will be four models of iPhone 13, and among them, two will be using LPTO technology in the screens. LPTO technology is necessary for a display to reach the refresh rate of 120Hz. Perhaps the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will have such features.
The refresh rate of the screen refers to how many times a screen updates per second. In standard phones the refresh rate is 60Hz, which means the screen updates 60 times in one second. iPhone's current refresh rate is also 60Hz. When the refresh rate is increased to 90Hz, 120Hz, or more, it means the screen will refresh more frequently enabling smoother motion and snappier navigation. To some customers, this is not a very noticeable feature. Higher refresh rates also mean more battery consumption.
Apple phones are already dealing with lesser battery life, so if a 120Hz refresh rate is added then the battery probably will die much faster. This could also be the reason why Apple still hasn’t implemented a 120Hz refresh rate. This problem can only be resolved if Apple improves the battery size. Another reason which may have prevented Apple from implementing the higher refresh rate is the probability of getting no benefit from adding the feature. A higher display refresh rate, if used in PC, improves gaming experiences, however, popular games and movie streaming apps do not support 120Hz refresh rates yet.
