March 18, 2025 – General Motors announced its decision to use Nvidia’s artificial intelligence chips and software through an expanded collaboration on Tuesday. The company will use these solutions to develop autonomous vehicle technology for its vehicles as well as improve workflow at its factories.
GM plans to use Nvidia’s Omniverse platform for factory planning and robotics. Similarly, it will use Nvidia’s DRIVE AGX hardware for advanced driver-assistance systems and in-cabin safety features.
The two companies have announced plans to work together to build AI systems using Nvidia’s platforms. General Motors also aims to use Nvidia’s autonomous tech for creating advanced driver-assistance systems.
In an exclusive interview, a GM spokesperson stated that the companies have formed a strategic collaboration on using AI in manufacturing. Under this collaboration, GM will also purchase AI chips for driver-assistance technology from Nvidia.
Earlier this year, automakers like Hyundai and Toyota partnered with Nvidia to enhnace their autonomous driving capabilities to stay in race with giants like Tesla. To follow this trend, now GM has decided to use Nvidia’s technologies.
The new collaboration with Nvidia will help GM to create next-generation factories, vehicles, and robotics using AI simulation and other technologies. It will also positively impact growth of the global autonomous vehicle chips industry.
“New partnerships between automakers and technology giants, such as GM-Nvidia collaboration, are expected to play a key role in boosting growth of the global autonomous vehicle chips industry in the coming years,” said a senior analyst at CMI.”
Increasing partnerships of automotive companies like GM and Toyota with Nvidia signal a growing reliance on advanced AI chips to power self-driving capabilities. It will create a conducive environment for the growth of autonomous vehicle chip manufacturers as more companies may look to advance in self-driving technologies.
More and more automakers are expected to develop advanced vehicles and robotics in the coming years amid intensifying competition. As a result, demand for advanced chips and software will likely rise rapidly.
According to Coherent Market Insights (CMI), global autonomous vehicle chip demand is anticipated to increase at 8.7% CAGR during the forecast period. Total industry size will likely reach USD 46.11 billion by 2032.
Rising adoption of Nvidia’s AI solutions will also strengthen its position in the autonomous vehicle chips sector. It could potentially attract more companies to try their hand in this expanding business.
