April 2, 2025 – Four prominent European Electric Vehicle (EV) charging companies collaborated to create Europe’s largest and most trusted EV charging network. The CEOs of Germany’s Ionity, Italy’s Atlante, France’s Electra, and Netherlands’ Fastned confirmed on Wednesday the formation of the Spark Alliance at the Cercle de l'Union Interalliée in Paris.
The new alliance aims to create Europe’s largest public EV charging network, integrating 11,000 charging points across 1,700 stations in 25 countries. That is more stations than the United States rival, Tesla. Beginning in June, customers across Europe will be able to access ultra-fast charging up to 400 kW and pay through any member app.
The Spark Alliance is formed to address consumer concerns over EV driving ranges. It will also boost EV adoption rates amid decreasing demand and relaxed EU emissions regulations. The European Commission has stated that around 3.5 million charging points will need to be installed by 2030. As a result, the future of electric vehicle charging station industry looks bright in Europe and other regions.
According to Coherent Market Insights (CMI), the global EV charging station market is projected to record a staggering 40.2% CAGR during the forecast period. Total industry size will likely reach US$ 355.33 billion by 2032. Rising EV adoption and increasing partnerships, such as that between Ionity, Atlante, Electra, and Fastned, will play a key role in shaping this growth.
“The groundbreaking partnerships between Ionity, Atlante, Electra, and Fastned will pave the way for the democratization of electric vehicle charging in public. It is expected to set new standards for mass adoption of electric vehicles in Europe, thereby contributing to growth of the EV charging station sector,” says a senior analyst at CMI.”
A large-scale network means increased accessibility to charging infrastructure. This can significantly boost electric vehicle adoption in the region. More charging stations will make EVs a more viable option for customer courtesy of their tendency to reduce range anxiety.
The new collaboration will make the EV charging station industry competition more intense. It could push other existing companies across regions like North America and Asia to accelerate their own networks to stay relevant. They may also partner with bigger networks, thereby further boosting growth of the target industry.
