Delfort Introduces Innovative Barrier Paper for Perishable Food Packaging

Delfort has launched a Thinbarrier 302, a novelty specialty paper that is specifically designed to offer protection for temperature-sensitive foods such as ice cream and confectionery.

When combined with appropriate cold-seal coatings, like the ones developed by German consumer goods company Henkel, paper from Delfort provides strong protective traits against environmental factors that maintain the taste, appearance, and texture of food.

Delfort points out that the paper packaging it offers is a reliable solution with barrier properties against moisture, oxygen, aroma, and fat, thus keeping products fresh and protected.

This paper, despite its light design, has high strength and superior flex-crack resistance, making it well-suited for demanding handling and transportation. It is free from intentionally added PFAS and can be recycled using the CEPI method, offering both performance and eco-friendliness.

The paper blocks moisture, ensuring products stay dry and the texture remains preserved with an MVTR of less than ten at 23°C and 85% humidity. It also prevents freezer burn, keeping frozen foods like ice cream bars in great condition, neither iced nor dried out.

According to the company, for powdered foods, dry snacks and baked goods, maintaining a low MVTR is also important to prevent moisture absorption and preserve their quality.

The OTR value of the barrier paper is less than 30, thus preventing oxygen exposure and maintaining the quality of chocolates, nuts, and other sensitive foods. It ensures that the products maintain their flavor, nutritional value, and aroma over time.

Delfort elaborates that the barrier paper will provide durability to the packaging as well as not allow unintentional openings. Furthermore, the cold seal release coating prevents the paper from sticking on itself during storage or processing for easy handling as well as for smooth operations in packaging lines.
