Portuguese packaging barriers maker Evertis plans to establish a new plant in Columbia, South Carolina.
The first part of the expansion will add capacity of 30,000 tonnes to the North American packaging sector and will be expected to create more than 100 new full-time positions for the region.
The move is targeting to meet increasing demand for reliable and effective packaging in North America. Evertis entered the US market in 2000 with production coming originally from plants located in Mexico and Brazil.
Based in France and founded in 1959, Evertis specializes in the manufacturing of food packaging and other uses in polymer applications of barrier films.
Evertis USA executive VP operations Thomaz Gruber stated: "This is another milestone in our road to getting our packaging to customers' doorsteps. The addition of the asset to our worldwide Group production base will allow us to provide shorter lead times, mitigate supply chain risks, and better conform to the growing market demand for packaging solutions."
According to coherent market insights, the flexible packaging industry is projected to expand at 5.5% CAGR in the forecast period 2025-2032. It is anticipated to be worth US$ 314.54 Bn in the year 2025 and will be worth US$ 457.85 Bn by the year 2032. Growth in the e-commerce industry and online shopping are anticipated to increase the size of the industry during the forecast period.
The global flexible packaging industry is poised to grow steadily over the coming years. The food and beverage industry remains the dominant end-use segment and demand from food manufacturers is expected to drive volumes says CMI’s senior consultant Kalpesh Gharte.
The new facility, with a total investment of £100 million, is set to begin operations in 2026, with its first commercial sales anticipated later that year.
