Global X-band Radar Market: Key Developments
In January 2022, in a partnership with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) manufactured Doppler radars that were successfully deployed in Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai. Specifically, X-band radars were sent to Delhi and Chennai. To enable timely weather updates, IMD has outlined its intentions to install at least 90 Doppler radars nationwide.
In April 2021, The U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA) granted a contract modification worth US$ 243 million, increasing the total value of the existing contract to US$ 1.2 billion. This contract is for the procurement of a single unit of the AN/TPY-2 radar system to provide support for Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) Battery #8. The program is set to conclude in 2024.
In Jan 2021, HENSOLDT U.K. Introduced the SPEXER 600, a mid-range X-band ground surveillance radar. This advanced radar system is specifically designed to support both offensive and defensive operations. It enables long-range fire support for offensive missions while providing force protection for static installations and mobile ground formations during defensive operations. The SPEXER 600 possesses automatic detection, classification, and tracking capabilities for ground, coastal, and low-flying air targets, with a maximum range of 400 km.
In Nov 2020, Thales Group announced that the naval forces of Belgium and the Netherlands had selected their X-band radar NC50 for its mine countermeasure vessels. The first delivery of the radar system is planned for 2023, and Thales Group is committed to completing the final delivery within the same year.
