Waste to Energy Market Key Developments:
- In 2016, a pre-feasibility study was carried out for developing waste to energy project of Emirates Waste To Energy Company (a partnership between Masdar and Bee’ah) in UAE. This is expected to be the first waste to energy facility in the UAE. The facility is expected to get operational by the end of 2020 wherein it is expected to process about 37.5 tons of municipal solid waste per hour.
- In February 2019, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) commissioner of India, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to develop an ‘integrated waste processing facility’ in Delhi, India. This facility is expected to be completed by 2021 and expected to have a capacity to process 2,000 metric tons of waste and produce 12 MW electricity.
- In October 2018, ACCIONA S.A. announced to develop first large-scale thermal waste to energy plant in Australia which will be located at Kwinana Industrial Area. This plant is expected to process up to 400,000 tons of waste per year and is estimated to export about 36MW of electricity to the grid.
- Moreover, in August 2019, ACCIONA S.A. won US$ 435.25 Mn contract of waste to energy ‘Ness Energy Project’ in Aberdeen, Scotland. Through this contract ACCIONA will construct and operate this waste to energy facility which is expected to process about 150,000 tons of municipal solid waste per year to generate electricity.
