On March 13, 2023, Visionix, a global manufacturer of ophthalmic diagnostic devices, announced a new multimodal device update with its second-generation VX 650. VX 650 is an advanced anterior segment analyzer with retinal imaging. The enhanced wavefront-based aberrometer's "quick mode" and new capture flexibilities can decrease screening time by half, offering improved product efficiency.
In November 2022, AEYE Health, a digital health company that provides fully autonomous, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based diagnostic screening solutions for retinal imaging received 510(k) clearance for a system that uses artificial intelligence to diagnose diabetic retinopathy from retinal images which can cause spot vision. The U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance positions AEYE Health to sell a technology that achieved 93% sensitivity and 91.4% specificity in a clinical trial.
In September 2022, India Vision Institute (IVI), an India-based nongovernmental organization working to provide access to underprivileged vision screening and a pair of free spectacles to those in need, has won the Vision2020 Dr. Jordan Kassalow Vision Spring Award.
