Antioxidants are majorly used in food-processing where use of synthetic antioxidants is common to increase shelf life of ready-to-eat food products. A major driver for growth of natural antioxidants market is increasing awareness regarding side effects of synthetic antioxidants. Moreover, natural antioxidants have better antioxidative activity as compared to the synthetic antioxidants.
According to a report ‘High-Growth Segments of Indian Food and Beverage Industry’ (November 2017) of Indian government’s Ministry of food processing industries, total consumption of the food and beverage segment in India is expected to increase from US$ 369billion to US$ 1.142trillion by 2025. Increased consumption of processed food is expected to propel demand for food items with longer shelf life. To meet this demand, natural antioxidants would provide greener and safer alternative.
However, high cost of natural antioxidants as compared to synthetic antioxidants may hamper natural antioxidants market growth.
