Metabolomics is the systematic identification and quantitation of all metabolites in a given organism or biological sample. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and mass spectrometry (MS), provide the enhanced resolution, along with the powerful chemometric software, that allows the simultaneous determination and comparison of thousands of chemical entities, which has lead to an expansion of small molecule biochemistry studies in bacteria, plants, and mammals. Targeted and untargeted metabolomics service are the two major types of metabolomics services.
The global metabolomics services market is estimated to be valued at US$ 483.74 million in 2022 and is expected to exhibit a CAGR of 14.2% during the forecast period (2022-2030).

Global Metabolomics Services Market – Impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic
Since the COVID-19 virus outbreak in December 2019, the disease has spread to over 100 countries across the globe, and the World Health Organization declared it a public health emergency on January 30, 2020.
COVID-19 can affect the economy in three main ways: by directly affecting the production and demand of drugs, by creating disruptions in distribution channels, and through its financial impact on firms and financial markets. Due to nationwide lockdowns, several countries such as China, India, Saudi Arabia, the U.A.E., Egypt, and others are facing problems with the transportation of drugs from one place to another.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic had a negative impact on the global metabolomics services market. For instance, in March 2021, according to the data published in article Nature, by using the application targeted and untargeted metabolomics with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and ultra-high-pressure liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS) on plasma samples of patients were diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection and compared to 27 ambulatory patients with flu-like symptoms, negative for COVID-19. Thus, 77 metabolites exhibited stage-dependent alterations in their plasma concentration. From these metabolites, 57 were increased in critical care patients and among 30 metabolites, 29 were higher and 1 lower in critical than in mild cases.
Global Metabolomics Services Market: Key Developments
Increasing adoption of inorganic growth strategies such as product launches by key market players is expected to drive the global metabolomics services market growth over the forecast period. For instance, in June 2022, Shimadzu Corporation, a medical equipment company, announced that they had launched LCMS-2050 high-performance liquid chromatograph mass spectrometer, which is used to discover the presence or absence of impurities in the pharmaceutical and chemical fields, and for the confirmation of synthetic products and measurement of the amounts of ingredients in food products.
Global Metabolomics Services Market: Restraint
Various challenges associated with the metabolomics is expected to hinder the global metabolomics market over the forecast period. For instance, according to an article published in national library of medicine, in January 2019, challenges typically arise during the sample collection, processing, and laboratory analysis phases. The type of specimen, collection method, storage conditions, and profiling-related variables such as analytical batch can impact metabolomic profiles and add noise to the data.
