Global Light Sensor Market: Key Developments

  • In June 2017, ROHM Semiconductor introduced a color sensor for display-equipped devices such as smartphones and tablets capable of detecting the color temperature, brightness, and RGB components of ambient light.
  • In February 2019, STMicroelectronics introduced a full-color ambient light sensor (ALS) that helps smartphones take better pictures and present more visually accurate data on-screen displays. By simultaneously providing scene color temperature, ultra-violet (UVA) radiation level, and lighting frequency information, the VD6281 lets the camera correct white balance and enhance color presentation, and sets appropriate exposure times for the camera to avoid flicker artefacts and eliminate banding in pictures and videos, especially in scenes lit with contemporary LED sources.
  • In July 2019, Maxim introduced Healthcare Sensors that enable ultra-small size, lowest power and clinical-grade accuracy for next-generation wearables. MAX30208 clinical-grade digital temperature sensor enables new wearable health and fitness use cases at half the power; MAXM86161 in-ear heart-rate monitor provides best-in-class SNR at the lowest power and 40 percent less space for continuous heart-rate and SpO2 measurements.
  • In September 2019, ams AG launched the world’s smallest digital proximity sensor module. The ultra-small package of the TMD2635 occupies just 1mm3 of volume and enables audio manufacturers of True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earbud products to develop smaller, lighter industrial design earbuds. The IR proximity sensor enables wireless earbud in-and-out of ear detection to help extend battery life between chargings and can be used in tandem with another TMD2635 to enable elementary touchless gesture control without the need for buttons.
  • In February 2019, ams AG launched introduced a new color (RGB), proximity and flicker detection sensor, the TCS3707, which enables a mobile phone camera to take clean, unblemished photographs in artificial lighting scenes.
