In June 2022, Altair, a global leader in computational science and artificial intelligence (AI), acquired Gen3D, a startup from the University of Bath in the U.K. Gen3D is recognized for its pioneering use of the implicit geometry method to describe highly complex geometries, such as lattice structures, in additive manufacturing.
In October 2022, Siemens, a global leader in digitalization, and Desktop Metal, Inc., a prominent provider of additive manufacturing solutions, announced a multifaceted partnership aimed at accelerating the adoption of additive manufacturing (AM) for production applications, specifically targeting the world's largest manufacturers. This collaboration will enhance the integration of Siemens' technology into Desktop Metal's AM 2.0 systems, focusing on binder jet 3D printing to improve efficiency and sustainability in manufacturing processes.
In August 2022, Carbon, a leading company in 3D printing technology, acquired ParaMatters, a provider of generative design software for additive manufacturing. This acquisition enhances Carbon's software capabilities by adding topology optimization, allowing for the creation of more complex and higher-performance part designs in additive manufacturing. By integrating ParaMatters' technology, Carbon aims to improve its generative design capabilities and streamline the product development process for its customers.
In January 2022, Saffelberg Investments, an independent investment company with a 380 million EUR capital base, successfully closed a funding round with Diabatix NV, a Belgian SaaS scale-up based in Leuven that specializes in AI-fueled generative thermal design. With a 2 million EUR investment, Saffelberg will support Diabatix in accelerating the growth of its ColdStream platform, which enables engineers to create optimized thermal designs for heat sinks and cold plates rapidly through the combination of AI and generative design.
