In June 2023, a series of industry-leading Taiwanese companies, including LITE-ON Technology Corp., a dedicated provider of low power, highly efficient 5G/O-RAN SA products, showcased their innovative industrial and enterprise 5G connectivity solutions at COMNEXT Tokyo 2023. The exhibition, organized in partnership with Taiwan's Industry Development Bureau and Institute for Information Industry, also featured Askey Computer Corp., a subsidiary of ASUSTeK specializing in wireless network communications and intelligent IoT equipment, and Quanta Cloud Technology, a designer and manufacturer of data center solutions. The event included a seminar discussing Next Generation Communication Industry Trends in Taiwan and Japan.
In February 2023, Vodafone, a leading telecommunications company, unveiled a prototype of its innovative 5G network-in-a-box at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023, showcased at their booth in Hall 3. This compact device, roughly the size of a home Wi-Fi router, features a software-defined radio (SDR) chipset developed by Lime Microsystems and operates on a Raspberry Pi 4 computer.
In November 2022, Cisco, a global leader in networking technologies, announced plans to open a next-generation semiconductor device design center in Spain. As part of its global strategy to enable a reliable, scalable, and sustainable semiconductor supply chain, Cisco, known for its innovative networking solutions and enterprise software, intends to establish an engineering design center in Spain to create and prototype advanced semiconductor devices. This initiative will be carried out within the framework of the Spanish strategic project for the Recovery and Economic Transformation of Microelectronics and Semiconductors (PERTE Microchip).
In September 2022, AT&T, a major telecommunications provider in the U.S., launched a new femtocell in collaboration with Nokia, a global leader in telecommunications and network infrastructure. This initiative aims to facilitate the transition from 3G to 5G technology. AT&T reported that it has shipped 145,000 of these devices to customers who will be impacted by this change.
