Plastic products have numerous advantages including easy to use, affordability, and more economical.  Majority of plastics are single-use, and thus, cannot be recycled. According to Organisations for Economic Co-operation and Development a survey, 9 Mn tons of plastic are produced annually in Europe, 19% of that plastic is recycled, and the rest is dumped in landfills and the open air. Furthermore, single-use foam plastic is used in the production of food service disposables. Single-use foam plastic is used in the production of food containers, plates, bottles, and other products. The foam plastic is composed of polyurethane and polystyrene. Polyurethane and polystyrene are toxic in nature, and can cause serious health problems if consumed in large quantities.

The stringent government regulation regarding the ban of single-use plastic products impacted the manufacturer of biodegradable foodservice disposable, as the manufacturer should completely shut down their current plastic machines and business or can switch to different alternatives. This impacted all FMCG companies, as well as e-commerce, and food companies.
