Global DNA and RNA Sample Preparation Market: Key Trends
Initiatives by key market players for launch of new products
On October 18, 2022, Twist Bioscience, a U.S.-based biotechnology company, launched Human sample ID kit to track whole blood samples throughout period of lab testing workflow. The twist human sample ID kit can be easily integrated into twist new generation sequencing workflows and enables tracking from whole blood or purified genomic DNA to ensure sample identification throughout the lab workflow.
Global DNA and RNA Sample Preparation Market: Restraint
High cost of DNA & RNA sample preparation methods
DNA & RNA sample preparation is the first and essential step of any biological procedure. However, the materials and the labor work required in preparation of sample is very costly. Hence, it results into increasing overall cost of process. Also, available kits have limited throughput so scaling it to higher sample requires automation. The reagents used are also very costly. For instance, according to article published by BMC Genomics on August 24, 2022, about 80% of the total costs of genomic sequencing occur prior to sequencing during DNA & RNA extraction.
To counter balance this problem, proper precautions should be taken care and material should be handled and stored carefully.
In August 22, 2022, Qiagen, a Germany-based molecular diagnostic company, launched new solutions, QIAseq targeted DNA pro panels and QIAseq UPXome RNA Library Kit, which can be used in preparing samples for determining their nucleic acid sequencing. This can significantly accelerate DNA variant detection and RNA sequencing of low-input samples. They provides ease of use, efficiency and expanded, ultra-sensitive variant analysis using integrated unique molecular indices (UMIs). The panels are powerful tools for detecting genetic variations such as somatic mutations, single nucleotide polymorphisms, and copy number variations.
Global DNA and RNA Sample Preparation Market: Key Developments
On March 2, 2021, Agilent Inc., a U.S.-based biotechnology company, acquired Resolution Bioscience, U.S.-based cancer diagnostic company to strengthen its position in oncology diagnostic solutions. This combination brings together Resolution Bioscience’s noninvasive liquid biopsy platform that improves cancer diagnostics with Agilent’s tissue-based companion diagnostics on commercial and regulatory scale. This will also accelerate precision oncology testing for patients worldwide through distributed NGS-based diagnostic kits.
On April 9, 2020, Bio-Rad Laboratories Inc., a U.S.-based life science research and clinical diagnostic company, acquired Celsee Inc, another U.S-based biotechnological company that offers instruments and consumables for isolation, detection and analysis of single cells. The Celsee's Genesis System can scale from hundreds of thousands to millions of cells for genomic and proteomic applications and can enrich or monitor circulating tumor cells to determine disease progression and therapeutic response. The terms of acquisition were not disclosed.
On March 2, 2022, Beckman Coulter Life Sciences, a U.S.-based diagnostic company, launched CellMek SPS, a fully automated sample preparation system for clinical flow cytometer. In this system, the sample can be washed, stained, lysed without need of manual intervention. This system offers on-demand processing for a multitude of sample types to help laboratories to expand capabilities.
