A disposable infusion extension line is used to deliver saline, glucose, and insulin to the body. A needle is inserted in the cannula, it is a tiny plastic tube that is placed under the skin in the subcutaneous fat. This needle is necessary to be punctured in the skin so as to insert the disposable infusion extension line. After the insertion the needle is removed and the tiny plastic tube i.e. the cannula remains in place. There are two types of disposable infusion extension set i.e. angled and straight. Angled sets are inserted under the skin at 30-degree angle and the straight sets are inserted perpendicularly at 90-degree angle. Disposable infusion extension lines are a very important part of pump therapy, as they provide constant insulin delivery. Winged disposable infusion extension lines set is also called as scalp vein or butterfly vein set. This device is specially used for venipuncture i.e. for accessing a superficial vein. It consists of a hypodermic needle, two bilateral flexible wings, flexible small bore transparent tubing, and a connector. The connector is attached to another device for instance, a syringe, vacuum tube holder or an extension tube from an infusion pump.
