Presence of mercury in traditional thermometers

Presence of mercury in traditional thermometers is expected to hinder growth of the market. Traditional thermometers with toxic mercury are harmful for human and wild life. For instance, in February 2021, Enviromental Protection Agency EPA, China, has launched an effort to reduce the use of mercury-filled non-fever thermometers used in industrial settings where suitable alternatives exist. As part of a partnership enviromental projection agency developed with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), NIST no longer provides calibration services for mercury thermometers.
