China Orthosis and Prosthetics Market: Key Developments
- In June 2022, Ottobock, innovator for prosthetics, orthoses and exoskeletons, launched the C-Leg 4 knee prosthetic, with features such as a deep-sleep mode for battery power conservation and a redesigned charger for convenient one-hand usage. It has been built to carry out several functions including better support while sitting down, assisted descent on stairs and ramps, improved stance release, and ‘Stumble Recovery Plus’. All these functions can be adjusted and controlled through the company’s ‘Cockpit’ app.
- In August 2022, the Education Committee of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) officially issued an accreditation certificate to Binzhou Medical University (BMU), valid for 3 years (2022-2025).
- In September 2021, Myomo, Inc., a wearable medical robotics company that offers increased functionality for those suffering from neurological disorders and upper-limb paralysis, announced the granting of patents in China and Hong Kong, and thus, covering the company’s most advanced products. Patent number ZL201680032072 was issued in China and patent number 1251447B was issued in Hong Kong. The patents are titled “Powered Orthotic Device and Method of Using Same,” which covers a powered orthotic device that supports movement of a user’s arm about the elbow and a user’s fingers and thumb to support grasping. These newly issued patents will be in operation from June 2036.
