• In September 2022, ABB, a leading global technology company that energizes the transformation of society and industry to achieve a more productive, sustainable future, announced that it had acquired a 10% stake in Samotics, a leading provider of real-time actionable insights to optimize performance and energy efficiency of AC motors and rotating equipment, and Dutch electrical signature analysis (ESA) technology provider, entered into a long-term strategic partnership with the company to offer enhanced condition monitoring services. The technology from Samotics, an AI-driven platform that supports global industrial companies in reducing energy waste and unplanned downtime, works well with the ABB Ability Condition Monitoring service for powertrains, which is a sensor-based solution that analyzes the health and performance of rotating equipment.
• In August 2022, Smiths Detection Inc., a global leader in inspection and detection technologies for the air transport, ports and borders, armed forces and urban security markets, and Block MEMS, LLC, a leading supplier of Quantum Cascade Laser-based products used in transportation security, defense, critical infrastructure protection, medical device, and health care industries, were selected by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense to develop a Proximate Chemical Agent Detector (PCAD) capable of non-contact detection of solid and liquid threats. PCAD will provide a stand-off (non-contact) chemical agent detector that will be able to identify and classify solid and liquid hazards, including Chemical Warfare Agents, Toxic Industrial Chemicals, Non-Traditional Agents, opioids, and explosives, on various surfaces.
• In August 2022, Honeywell International Inc., a global leader in providing product and service solutions to create efficient, safe, and comfortable environments, and help business and industry improve productivity and profitability, and Invensys plc, a global supplier of sensors and controls used in the medical, office automation, aerospace, HVAC, automotive, and consumer appliance industries, announced that Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions (ACS), a US$ 8 billion business unit of Honeywell, had signed an agreement to acquire Invensys Sensor Systems for US$ 415.0 million in cash. Invensys Sensor Systems will become part of the Automation and Control Products unit of ACS.
• In January 2021, Honeywell, a technology company that delivers industry-specific solutions that include aerospace products and services; control technologies for buildings and industry; and performance materials, introduced an Optical Caliper Measurement Sensor designed to optimize Lithium Ion Battery (LIB) production. The new sensor, which leverages Honeywell's experience in producing advanced sensors and controls for the global LIB industry, provides an effective solution for measuring the true thickness of electrode material during coating as well as at the pressing station during LIB manufacturing. Accurate thickness measurement is a key criterion for optimal battery performance, as it helps LIB manufacturers improve efficiency, reduce waste, and minimize overall production costs.
