In December 2023, FUJIFILM Corporation, a multinational conglomerate, announced a USD 200 million investment in two subsidiaries to dramatically enhance global cell therapy contract development and manufacturing (CDMO) capabilities. The investment would allow Fujifilm to support the growing cell therapy business, which is expected to increase by more than 30% per year from USD 3.3 billion in FY2022.

In February 2023, Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies, a medical technology company, presented data from its Quantum Flex Cell Expansion System for the first time at a major conference, revealing how its hollow-fiber perfusion technique speeds up T-cell treatment development in a range of bioreactors. Terumo BCT scientists reported the results of several T-cell expansion runs at the CAR-TCR Summit Europe in London, with a 60% to 70% reduction in media utilization and 8.7 to 9.6 population doublings over the course of 8 days.

In September 2021, Bio-Techne Corporation, a company that develops, manufactures, and sells life science reagents, announced the release of a novel medium for the multiplication and preservation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) for use in both research and translation workflows. The ExCellerate iPSC Expansion Medium is the latest addition to Bio-Techne's extensive Regenerative Medicine product and service range. It is intended to integrate easily with their stem cell process solutions, which include cell isolation, reprogramming, genome engineering, cell growth, differentiation, and characterization.

In March 2021, AGC Biologics, a major global biopharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO), announced intentions to expand its Cell and Gene Therapy Center of Excellence in Milan, increasing capacity and implementing viral vector suspension capabilities. With this expansion, AGC Biologics will add two new floors to the suite and upgrade the equipment on the current floor. The new facilities are set to go fully operational in 2022.
