Global Cell and Tissue Culture Supplies Market: Key Developments

On January 24, 2022, BioIVT LLC, a U.S.-based biotechnology company, launched good manufacturing practices grade human AB serum for the development and manufacturing of cell and gene therapies. Human AB serum has wide applications like it supports in vitro cell expansion by providing growth factors, vitamins, nutrients, trace elements, and transport factors found in an in vivo environment. It helps primary human cells to grow at faster rate by providing them biologically relevant conditions. This is important for autologous therapies which requires a person’s own cells or tissues. This serum is helpful for rapid development of cell cultures.

On August 10, 2021, Vita Labs Inc., a U.S.-based vitamin and dietary supplement manufacturer, collaborated with ForemostCo Inc., a U.S.-based wholesale plant nursery, to launch a tissue culture lab in Guatemala, U.S., to provide clean and healthy starting material for houseplants. This collaboration will help to strengthen the supply chain of plants. Collaboration with Vita Labs helped ForemostCo to produce high-quality, uniform planting material that can be multiplied on a year-round basis under disease-free conditions. This collaboration will help for preparing a cell culture technique that provides good quality and healthy cells.

On September 9, 2021, Cytiva Life Sciences IP Holding Corporation, a U.S.-based biopharmaceutical company, expanded its manufacturing capacity for bioprocessing single-use consumables in China, in collaboration with Wego Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd, a China-based healthcare technology supplier. The two companies expanded an existing facility jointly launched in 2018. This newly added manufacturing lines will triple the supply capacity of single-use consumables in the Asia Pacific region. In addition to the increased capacity, Cytiva Life Sciences,  launched new products, 100 Litres-1,000 Litres Xcellerex mixer bags, to the expanded facility’s manufacturing portfolio.

On August 5, 2021, Advanced Instruments LLC., a U.S.-based medical equipment manufacturer, acquired Solentim, a U.K.-based biotechnology company. Advanced Instruments’ OsmoTECH portfolio of osmometers are designed  for the biopharmaceutical industry to characterize and optimize cell culture conditions to support clonal growth and selection as well as to support upstream and downstream production processes. Solentim products are utilized in the early stages of biologic drug development to accelerate the selection of optimal clones for the production of monoclonal antibodies, gene therapies, and iPSC derived cell therapies. Advanced Instruments’ and Solentim’s technologies are synergistic, drive efficiencies, and can support improved clonal lines for use in therapeutic workflows.

Global Cell and Tissue Culture Supplies Market: Key Trends

Introduction of newer instruments for efficient cell culturing techniques

Introduction of newer and more efficient instruments to boost up cell culturing techniques can drive growth of market. On September 28, 2022, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc., a U.S.-based scientific instrumentation company, launched Thermo Scientific DynaSpin Single-Use Centrifuge system. The system is designed to provide a single-use solution for large-scale cell culture harvesting. The DynaSpin system improves and streamlines harvesting for cell culture separation in single-use bioprocesses by reducing the number of depth filtration cartridges required to complete the harvest process. The DynaSpin solution provides equivalent or improved product yield compared to traditional harvest systems with higher operational efficiency, cost savings and sustainable practices in the production of biologics.

Acquisition strategy by key market players

On July 29, 2021, Sartorius AG, a Germany- based manufacturer and distributor of laboratory technology equipment, acquired Xell AG, a Germany- based biotechnology company. Through this collaboration, Sartorius AG expanded its media offering as they would be entering into specialized media production which is suitable for manufacturing of viral vectors and media analytics. Also it will help to expand the production network and get access to the analytical services of Xell for characterizing, screening, and quantifying media components, as well as optimizing media composition.
