Nutrition is one of the most vital elements needed for maintaining health and managing and preventing various diseases. Nutritional support is given to people who are unable to get sufficient nourishment through diet. Enteral nutrition, also known as tube feeding, refers to a method of feeding that uses the gastrointestinal (GI) tract to deliver caloric requirements, including normal oral diet or liquid supplements.
Moreover, nutrients provided through nose is called nasoenteral nutrient therapy in which the nasogastric feeding tube is placed in the stomach through the nose, whereas, a jejunostomy tube is placed directly through the skin. This formula helps premature infants to gain required nutrition and medications. Children born before the 32nd and 34th week of gestation are required to receive a nasogastric tube for feeding right after birth. For instance, according to data provided by the National Live Births System (SINASC), in 2016, the prevalence of preterm births in Brazil was 11.4%.
The Brazil enteral nutrition market size is estimated to be valued at US$ 323.7 Mn in 2019 and is expected to exhibit a CAGR of 4.5% over the forecast period (2019–2027).
Rising incidence of chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer is expected to drive the market growth over the forecast period
According to the International Diabetes Federation, in Brazil around 12,465,800 patients suffered from diabetes in 2017 and the prevalence rate of diabetes in Brazil was around 8.7%.
Moreover, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2018, out of 1.3 million deaths in Brazil, around 74% were due to non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which include cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, and chronic lung diseases.
Furthermore, according to the World Health Organization’s Non-communicable Diseases (NCD) Country Profiles - 2018, around 18% of the population was suffering from different types of cancer in Brazil.
Increasing healthcare expenditure is expected to propel the market growth over the forecast period. For instance, according to International Trade Administration report published on May 2019, Brazil is the largest healthcare market in Latin America and spends around 9.1% of its GDP on healthcare.
However, stringent government regulations and inadvertent dislodgment of feeding tubes that lead to accidental disabilities and deaths, is expected to hamper the market growth over the forecast period.
