In January 2018, Mafic SA entered into a partnership with Michelman, Inc. (manufacturer of barrier & functional coatings, and polymeric binders). Both companies will work together for developing innovative basalt fiber composite products. Michelman’s surface treatment and fiber sizing technology will be leveraged by Mafic for development of high performance composite products. The partnership will help Mafic to expand its product portfolio.
In June 2019, Anisoprint Sarl (manufacturer of continuous carbon fiber 3D printers) launched new basalt fiber composite for 3D printing technology application. The new composite is 15 times stronger than plastic, 1.5 times stronger & lighter than aluminum and 5 times lighter steel.
In December 2019, Basanite Industries LLC, received all permits to start production of BasaFlex (basalt fiber reinforced polymer) at its plant based in Pompano Beach, Florida (U.S.). The new plant will help Basanite Industries to expand its basalt fiber capacity and meet increasing demand for basalt fiber from construction industry.
