Key Developments:

Product Launches/Approval:

  • In June 2022, LiveMetric, a leader in medical wearable technology, launch LiveOne, the world’s first 510(k) U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared nano-sensor technology for monitoring blood pressure every 10 seconds. LiveOne is a wrist-worn, cuff-free solution that provides real time measurements to improve the care and treatment of people with hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. It’s innovative design provides an affordable, daily monitor which empowers users to know their blood pressure from anywhere and at any time. The band makes it possible to evaluate not only a static 24-hr ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM), but also to monitor BP over an entire week. It could also aid in the continuous research to improve diagnosis of secondary causes of hypertension that have variable BP increases.
  • In May 2021, Biobeat, a global leader in wearable remote patient monitoring solutions for the healthcare continuum, launch its new wearable and continuous ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) chest-monitoring device. As blood pressure (BP) measurement has shown to be crucial in the early detection and prevention of clinical disorders, ABPM can act as a decisive indicator of patient health, thus tracking patient cardiac data continuously in real-life settings outside of the physician's office to provide an accurate, holistic, and unbiased view of patient health.

Research and Development:

  • In May 2023, Aktiia, a health tech startup transforming hypertension care, announced promising results from a preliminary study comparing their cuff-less and continual blood pressure monitor with traditional ambulatory blood pressure monitors (ABPM). The study included 52 patients enrolled in a 12-week cardiac rehabilitation program and found that the Aktiia bracelet produced daytime blood pressure measurements that were comparable to those of an ABPM.

Acquisition:

  • In September 2021, SunTech Medical, Inc. a subsidiary of Halma plc., announced that it had completed the acquisition of all shares of Meditech Kft., a manufacturer of ambulatory blood pressure monitors (ABPM) and ECG Holter devices based in Budapest, Hungary. Through the acquisition, Meditech Kft., becomes a business unit of SunTech Medical, Inc., allowing SunTech Medical, Inc. to leverage the two companies' expert knowledge of blood pressure (BP) to bring better BP solutions to customers.
