Agricultural micronutrients are essential nutritional supplementation for growth of plants. Deficiency of micronutrient may lead to poor growth of the plant, for instance, lime-induced chlorosis is the disorder seen in plants due to iron deficiency. Fertilizers based on chelated agricultural micronutrients increase micronutrient utilization efficiency of the plant.
Factors such as high soil pH, high bicarbonate content, and abiotic stresses reduce the bioavailability of iron (Fe) to the plant. Plants can utilize the iron which is in the ferrous iron (Fe2+) form, however plants cannot utilize ferric form (Fe3+) of iron. Chelated iron prevents the conversion of Fe2+ to Fe3+ and thereby chelated-iron agricultural micronutrients aid in the growth of plants.
Market Dynamics
The chelated-iron agricultural micronutrients market is segmented on the basis of applications including cereals, fruits and vegetables, pulses & oilseeds, and others such as floriculture. These agricultural products can be treated by micronutrients using various methods such as foliar spray, fertigation, seed treatment, and soil treatment.
Among applications, cereals segment is expected to hold significant market revenue share over the forecast period. This is owing to increasing demand of cereals across the globe due to its easy availability and nutritional benefits. For instance, according to the data published by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in January 2019, global production of cereals was about 5.4 million tons in 2012 which increased to 7.0 million tons in 2017.
