Personal emergency response system (PERS) is a system that lets you call for help in an emergency by pushing a button. A PERS has three components: a small radio transmitter, a console connected to your telephone, and an emergency response center that monitors calls. An individual wears the radio transmitter device around his/her neck or wrist or holds it (via pocket). When a person falls, he/she presses the button on the device. This communicates with the console which is connected to the user’s telephone. When the user presses the button on his/her device, the console automatically dials one or multiple programmed emergency telephone numbers. This call is picked up by an emergency response center that monitors these calls. The center staff identifies the caller, determines the nature of the emergency, and then calls the emergency contact and/or emergency personnel. The high prevalence of diseases and increasing of falls in the elderly are expected to boost the global personal emergency response systems market growth.
Market Dynamics
The key market players are focusing on the adoption of growth strategies such as collaboration, which is attributed to the growth of the global personal emergency response systems market. For instance, in August 2020, AppTech Corp., a fintech company, announced that the company entered a strategic partnership agreement with Silver Alert Services LLC, doing business as LifeLight Systems, expanding into the telehealth sphere. By leveraging both companies’ strengths, the partnership will expand AppTech’s reach into new markets and provide advanced technological solutions for the telehealth and personal emergency response systems markets. By acting as LifeLight Systems’ financial and administrative services partner, AppTech will provide operational and financial efficiencies to LifeLight Systems, which the parties foresee resulting in rapid expansion and adoption of the product offering.
