Toroidal inductors are components that provide resistance in electrical circuits and are used for energy storage in a magnetic field. They are considered passive electronic components. Inductance is identified as a voltage that resists the field-producing current when the magnetic field fluctuates. The inductor's inductance is determined by the number of loops or turns of copper wire wrapped around the air or metal, as well as the radius of the copper coil. Toroidal inductor resembles donuts or bagels in shape and size, and it is made of a coil of wire coiled around an iron core. Toroidal inductors can be used to control the flow of current in applications such as electronic filters, power supply circuits, and radio –frequency circuits.
Toroidal transformers are transformers with shape of a donut or spherical core. The core is made up of ferromagnetic materials such as iron powder, laminated iron, or ferrite. In the toroidal transformer, wires are wound around the circular or donut shape. The toroidal core gives transformer performance without acoustic noise, whereas the vibration of the iron laminations causes acoustic noise. Toroidal transformers are substantially more expensive to manufacture than conventional lamination core transformers because of their structure, and wire winding also require skilled operator to wind the wire around donut shaped core due to its complicated process to manufacture this equipment.
Market Dynamics
The surge in innovations and advances in consumer electronic devices are resulting in increasing investments by market players for R & D in consumer electronics sector and this is expected to drive growth of the toroidal inductor and transformer market during the forecast period. For instance, in August 2022, Henkel AG & Co. KGaA, a multinational chemical and consumer goods manufacturer, announced inauguration their South China Application Engineering Center (SCAEC). The company intends to improve assistance for Chinese consumer electronics customers by opening the region's first engineering center for electronics applications. This development is intended to accelerate the creation of next-generation consumer electronic devices and enable industry innovation. Furthermore, the growing popularity of smart homes and smart cities, which require energy-efficient electronic and electrical equipment, is expected to fuel growth of the toroidal inductor and transformers market.
Growing technology advancements in digitization with the help of various electronic equipment is expected to propel market growth in near future. The toroidal inductors and transformers offers a number of benefits including low electromagnetic interference (EMI), properly deployed heating, high electrical efficiency, low noise level, reduced magnetic core losses, etc. Such benefits of transformers are expected to boost the revenue growth of this market. Rapid industrialization and urbanization are depleting worldwide electricity consumption. For instance, in 2021, according to World Bank, 56% of world population live in developed cities and this trend is expected to increase urbanization in near future, which is expected to drive economic growth of electronic industrial sector and complimenting financial growth of this market.
Growing awareness of the incorporation of renewable energy sources is expected to boost adoption of innovative electronic energy-saving products. However, fluctuating raw material prices and growing competition among prominent key players are estimated to hamper the market growth in the upcoming years.
