An infrared thermometer is a thermometer that derives its temperature from a portion of the thermal radiation, also called blackbody radiation, emitted by the object being measured. These are called laser thermometers because a laser is used to aim the thermometer, or non-contact thermometers or temperature guns to describe the device's ability to measure temperature from a distance.
Infrared thermometers are a subset of devices known as "thermal radiation thermometers". In some cases, especially near ambient temperatures, reflections of radiation from hotter objects (including the person holding the device) rather than being emitted from the object being measured, or incorrectly assumed emissivity may cause measurement errors. This design basically consists of a lens that focuses infrared thermal radiation onto a detector, which converts the radiation power into an electrical signal that can be displayed in temperature units after correcting for ambient temperature. This enables temperature measurement from a remote location without contact with the object being measured. Non-contact infrared thermometers are useful for temperature measurements in situations where thermocouples or other probe-type sensors are unavailable or cannot provide accurate data for various reasons.
Market Dynamics
The key market players are focused on organic growth strategies such as product launch by key market players to expand its product portfolio is expected to drive the global infrared thermometer market growth over the forecast period. For instance, in January 2020, Emerson, a global technology and engineering company, announced the launch of the new Cooper-Atkins 20200 Multi-Function Thermometer (MFT). The MFT transmits temperatures wirelessly to a compatible mobile device through Bluetooth Low Energy. It also reduces power consumption. The thermometer has an easy-to-read Liquid-crystal display (LCD) display and uses any Cooper-Atkins type-K thermocouple temperature probe, making it versatile for insertion, air or surface temperature measurement
