Hemostats, also referred to as hemostatic clamp, arterial forceps or pean are surgical tools used in surgical procedures to control bleeding. The hemostats were designed to clamp blood vessels of small size to manage blood flow in hemorrhagic cases. These devices are also used to grasp and secure superficial fascia during wound closure surgical procedures. The hemostats, with hinges and rings, are visibly similar to scissors. These instruments have a locking mechanism known as rachet that is used for clamping wherein the jaws of locking forceps come together, which helps in sealing the opening of the blood vessels. In many cases, the hemostats can be used to hold the subcutaneous tissues on the edges of the wound, while the tissue forceps are applied to the other edge to retract and gain better exposure to the wound site.
Market Dynamics
The prevalence of blood disorders leads to a boost in the India hemostat market .According to an article published in the Financila Express on May 9, 2023, with 42 Mn carriers, India is the Thalassemia capital of the world. At the same time , the huge costs of hemostats that use advanced microfibrillar technology cause patients from tier 2 and 3 cities to not receive appropriate treatment. According to an article published by PubMed-a free search engine for biomedical and life sciences data, people with insurance status (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial, self-pay, and unknown) do receive hemostats during surgical procedures in India. Thus, the Indian government is taking steps to assure adequate reimbursement since it recognises the importance of hemostats in the healthcare industry and their role in driving market growth over the forecast period.
