Electric vehicle batteries can last a long time, however, eventually all battery packs reach their end-of-life. At that point, the battery’s components will either be recycled or sent to a landfill where they can leach chemicals into groundwater and pollute the drinking supply. Recycling batteries will save resources and reduce pollution by keeping rare, hard-to-source materials out of the waste stream. Batteries are made of several metals, including lithium, nickel, and cobalt. They also contain graphite, aluminum for the casings, and water. EV battery recycling requires disassembling the pack and using liquid solvents to extract the minerals. These raw materials can then be used to build new EV batteries. The process is energy-intensive, but it’s still much less resource-intensive than creating a battery from scratch.
Market Dynamics:
The global electric vehicle battery recycling market is growing rapidly due to increasing demand for EVs worldwide. This has pushed the manufacturers of electric vehicles to use recycled materials in their manufacturing process. This in turn helps in cutting down the cost of production. This is further helping the industry to expand and enhance their presence in the global market.
However, high cost of setting up recycling plants, reusable EV batteries are projected to hamper growth of the global electric vehicle battery recycling market over the forecast period.
