Use as a filler material in sealing waxes, carbon paper and ink
Besides uses in cosmetics, polishes, and pharmaceuticals, ozokerite wax has widespread commercial applications as a blending component in inks and carbon papers. It is added as a filler material to natural and synthetic waxes that are employed in sealing, packaging and adhesive applications. The self-lubricating nature and high melting point of ozikerite makes it an attractive diluent for paraffin and other petroleum waxes used in these applications.
Its low cost and compatibility with different materials grant ozokerite wax exclusive use in carbon paper and carbon interleaving products. Mixed with suitable pigments and binders, it is formulated into solid or paste-like carbon inks. When pressure is applied on such carbon papers, the wax and pigment evenly transfer an indented image onto underlying sheets. Ozokerite wax facilitates smooth, smudge-free transfer of high-quality duplicates or impressions. It enhances the durability and performance properties of carbon papers compared to alternatives.
Another major outlet of ozokerite wax is as a constituent of shaving sticks, tattoo inks and stamp pad inks. Its firm yet supple texture and spreadability attributes lend well for such applications. Overall, ozokerite wax plays a key role as a functional additive and bulking agent across diverse commercial industries apart from its important uses in personal care and pharmaceutical formulations.
