  • On March 25, 2024, New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, Government office, New Jersey, U.S., announced the distribution of bleeding control kits to thousands of houses of worship in New Jersey. The kits are designed to provide churches, mosques, synagogues, temples and other places of worship with medical items to treat victims of potential active shooters before first responders arrive at the scene. The state will provide roughly 7,100 bleeding control kits to 6,400 houses of worship within one year as part of the program’s first phase.
  • In November 2023, Cintas Corporation, the provider of American Heart Association (AHA) CPR and AED trainings, launched its Bleeding Control Training Program to help businesses quickly identify and respond to life-threatening bleeding. The Cintas Bleeding Control Training course covers scene safety, PPE usage, wound identification and hands-on tourniquet application and wound packing. Participants will get an overview of injuries that can cause extreme loss of blood and methods to control bleeding, understand how a tourniquet works and when to apply one.

Officials placed the kits in the public access Automated External Defibrillator (AED) cabinets around the University of Illinois (Urbana) campus following on-campus trainings. The bleeding control kits contain what bystanders would need – including gauze and a tourniquet to help save lives in the critical moments after an incident where people may die from uncontrolled bleeding.
