Recent Developments:

New product launches:

  • On October 12, 2023, Lambert Instruments, a specialized in developing and producing advanced imaging solutions, launched its LIFA vTAU, a camera-based Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Microscopy (FLIM) turnkey vision system. LIFA vTAU features a single photon avalanche diode (SPAD) detector that can capture up to 100 lifetime images per second, and is capable of multiple image modes, including regular frequency domain FLIM and time-lapse recordings.
  • On September 7, 2023, Nikon Instruments Inc., microscope-based optical and imaging technologies for the life sciences company,  announced the release of the smart imaging system "ECLIPSE Ji", which utilizes AI to automate the acquisition and analysis of cellular images, thereby streamlining research workflows involving cancer and nerve disease. The smart imaging system "ECLIPSE Ji", a digital inverted microscope.
  • On April 12, 2023, Nikon Corporation, a Japanese multinational,  announced the development and launch of the digital imaging microscope “ECLIPSE Ui” as the first-ever microscope for medical use in Japan. It is distributed via Nikon’s subsidiary Nikon Solutions Co., Ltd. The ECLIPSE Ui has a unique design without an eyepiece lens (even though is a microscope), a design which improves the pathologist’s observation posture and enables the sharing of observation images on the display. It contributes to reducing the physical burden on pathologists and improves the workflow of pathological observation.

Acquisition and partnerships:

  • On July 6, 2023, the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), an intergovernmental organization dedicated to molecular biology research, and ZEISS Group International, an internationally leading technology, entered a long-term strategic partnership. The collaboration aims to close the gap between early-stage imaging technology development and its application in life science research. Through this collaborative approach, users of the EMBL Imaging Centre and related EMBL imaging services will have access to the latest microscopy technologies and expertise from ZEISS Group International. At the same time, the research carried out at EMBL and projects by Imaging Centre users provided ZEISS Group International with invaluable insights into new applications and opportunities for market-testing their most recent technology developments.
  • In November 2021, Predictive Health Diagnostics Company (PHDC), Inc., a diagnostics platform company that develops, manufactures, and distributes specialty diagnostic tests combining science, technology, and proprietary analytics that detect diseases with significant unmet medical needs and support better therapeutic outcomes, announced its acquisition of MUSE Microscopy, a high-value intellectual property portfolio developed jointly at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and University of California, Davis. MUSE (Microscopy with Ultraviolet Surface Excitation) Microscopy is the leading histology-free digital microscope providing the most significant advances in the industry in over 100 years. With this strategic acquisition, PHDC's MUSE platform will be the foundation that supports the company's future development of imaging-based diagnostics.
  • In July 2021, CELLINK, a bioconvergence startup that designs and supplies technologies and services to enhance biology research, entered an agreement to acquire Discover Echo Inc., a U.S. based microscopy and imaging company. The acquisition is CELLINK’s third since mid-May, when it announced its acquisition of Nanoscribe, a high-performance laser lithography system, and Visikol, a contract research services company, in moves that totaled nearly US$ 80 Mn and fortified its presence in the biophotonics space.
