In February 2025, China Baowu Steel Group revealed its new strategic roadmap (Vision 2035) for the next decade to lead in steel and advanced materials. Baowu has set five key long-term goals for 2035. These include
- Allocating 5% of the company’s revenue to research and development (R&D) to drive innovation in steel and advanced materials
- Steering operating revenue from advanced steel materials to 40%
- Reducing carbon emission by 30% per metric ton of steel
- Expanding global presence with overseas assets, revenues, and employees each making up 20% of the company’s total
- Achieving a 10% return on equity
In September 2024, United States Steel Corporation launched ZMAG coated steel. ZMAG is a revolutionary new carbon flat rolled coated steel product designed to tackle the harshest conditions. It is stronger, more resilient, and more sustainable than the company’s previous products.
In June 2024, Tata Steel Nederland introduced Zeremis Recycled to support customers’ circulatory goals. It is a steel product containing 30% recycled content. It is designed to address the growing demand for advanced steels with substantial recycled content from manufacturing and other sectors.
In May 2024, JFE Steel Corporation launched a new business brand, JFE Resolus to provide customers with different solutions. The new brand will deliver innovative solutions to a wide range of customers, including those outside the steel industry.
In July 2023, ArcelorMittal introduced new, low-carbon-emission steel tubes for construction, agriculture, and energy industries. The new tubes are designed to help these industries reduce CO2 footprint of their projects, products, and finished goods. They will help them meet their decarbonization targets.
