Major Players - Analog IC Industry

Consumer devices including LCD TVs, Blu-ray players, tablets, and smartphones have recently been in high demand. Advanced items like super 4K HD TVs, wearable fitness trackers, smart watches, smart smoke and CO2 detectors, thermostats, IP/Wi-Fi cameras, smart switches, smart locks, dimmers, and more have become more and more popular on the market. In the near future, these products are expected to grow significantly. The integration of semiconductor devices into automotive systems has led to a rise in the demand for analogue ICs due to the increased use of electronics in areas like fuel efficiency, safety, emission reduction, navigation, and entertainment systems.

By 2030, the global market for Analogue ICs is anticipated to be worth US$120 Bn

Leading Companies in the Analog IC Industry:

1. Texas Instruments Incorporated: Established in 1930. Headquarters in the United States. Texas Instruments, a company situated in Dallas, makes the majority of its money from semiconductors and the balance from their well-known calculators. The majority of analogue chips, which are needed to process real-world signals like sound and power, are produced by Texas Instruments. A wide range of electronics applications require processors and microcontrollers, and Texas Instruments holds a dominant market share position in these categories. National Semiconductor (April 2011), Luminary Micro (May 2009), and Ciclon (Feb 2009) are the most recent acquisitions.

2. Renesas Corporation: Established in 2002. Renesas Electronics Corp. is a Japanese business that produces and sells semiconductor components and other goods for use in industrial, automotive, medical, home appliance, and other end industries. Microcontrollers and microprocessors, embedded systems platforms, insulated-gate bipolar transistors, intelligent power devices, transistors, diodes, transistors, analogue integrated circuits, and optoelectronics products are all included in the company's product line. The company conducts business in Asia, the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. A leading provider of cutting-edge semiconductor solutions, Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE:6723, "Renesas"), announced in June 2023 that it had successfully acquired Panthronics AG ("Panthronics"), a fabless semiconductor business specialising in high-performance wireless products.

3. Infineon Technologies AG: Established in 1999. German headquarters in Neubiberg. One of Europe's major chipmakers, Infineon Technologies, with its headquarters in Munich, was separated from German industrial powerhouse Siemens in 2000. The business is a market leader in automotive semiconductors and has well-known products utilised in automobiles' active safety and engine systems. Additionally, Infineon dominates the market for power semiconductors, which are used to deliver voltage in a range of electrical applications. Automotive, industrial power control, power and sensor systems, and connected security systems are the company's four business segments. 2020 will see the completion of Infineon Technologies AG's acquisition of Cypress Semiconductor Corporation (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY). As of the Closing, the San Jose-based business is now a part of Infineon.

4. Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.: Established in 2002. Located in England, in the United Kingdom. a supplier of single-chip radios with short-range radio communication capabilities. Utilising portable and low-power platforms, the company's single chip radio device enables users to customise, manage, and interact with settings in novel and engaging ways.  Qualcomm will purchase NUVIA.

5. NXP Semiconductors: Established in 1953. Headquarters are in the Netherlands. Leading manufacturers of high-performance mixed-signal equipment include NXP Semiconductors. The company, which provides microcontrollers and analogue chips into vehicle clusters, powertrains, infotainment systems, and radars, purchased Freescale Semiconductor in 2015 and currently holds a large market position in the automotive industry. In addition, NXP Semiconductors provides infrastructure for the Internet of Things, mobile devices, and communications. Retune DSP (July 2021), Omniphy (Sept. 2018), and Cognivue (Sept. 2015) are the most recent acquisitions.

6. ON Semiconductor: Founded in 1999. Headquarters in the United States. Supplier of power semiconductors and sensors with an emphasis on the commercial and industrial markets is Onsemi. The second-largest manufacturer of power chips worldwide and the main provider of image sensors to the automotive industry is Onsemi. The company used to be quite vertically integrated, but in order to have flexible capacity, it now uses a hybrid manufacturing model. Onsemi is changing its direction to concentrate on cutting-edge applications like renewable energy, driverless vehicles, electric vehicles, and industrial automation. The most recent acquisitions are SensL (May 2018), Quantenna (Mar 2019), and GT Advanced Technologies (Aug 2021).

7. STMicroelectronics: STMicroelectronics was founded in 1987 as a result of a combination between the French nonmilitary division of Thomson Semiconductors and the Italian company SGS Microelettronica. Analogue chips, discrete power semiconductors, microcontrollers, and sensors are just a few of the semiconductor devices that STMicroelectronics excels in. It is a well-known chip supplier to the commercial and automotive sectors in particular. Cartesiam (May 2021), Somos (Oct 2020), and BeSpoon (Jul 2020) are the most recent acquisitions.

*Definition: The analog IC (Integrated Circuit) market refers to the industry that deals with the design, development, production, and distribution of integrated circuits specifically designed for analog signal processing and amplification.
